Shanthi Mathai holds M.Sc. in Communication Studies with first rank from Madurai Kamaraj University and is a doctoral research scholar with Mother Teresa University, Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu. She carries with her a work experience of twenty one years across the fields of education, journalism (reporting & editing), research, social marketing, social work and program coordination with national and international NGOs. She has made academic presentations at many national and international conferences as well as published research papers and articles. She possesses rich experience in organizing conferences, training programs and workshops, and has produced numerous communication materials. She has accumulated good experience with the NGO, Ecumenical Women at the United Nations, New York as a Researcher and Coordinator of Orientation programs to international delegates to the UN program of Commission on Status of Women. Her other involvements include: delegate to the Commission on Status of Women, United Nations, New York (53rd and 54th sessions); Coordinator and Volunteer, Tsunami survivors' rehabilitation programs in Kerala (2005) and Convener of Training of Trainers of HIV/AIDS (2004-6) by AICCW/NCCI; Editorial Team member of the book, Meditations on Beijing Platform for Action (2010), New York; Convener, Young Women’s Forum of Asian Church Women’s Conference (2008-10) and organized an international conference at Bogor, Indonesia in 2010.
