JLU School of Media and Communication organised a high powered panel discussion on the theme: Rethinking Journalism -The Societal Role & Relevance of Journalism in a Digital Age.
The discussion held on 17th November 2015 also marked National Journalism Day. The panellists included Mr. Anwar Ahmed Khan, Director All India Radio Bhopal; Mr.Sharad Dwivedi, Editor-in-chief, Bansal TV; Mr.Shahroz Afridi, Principal Correspondent, Hindustan Times; Mr.Manish Srivastava, Bureau Chief, Press Trust of India and Dr. P. Sasikala, Head, Department of New Media Technology, MCN National University . The Vice Chancellor, JLU, Prof. Dr.Anoop Swarup and Registrar Prof. Dr. R.Nesamoorthy graced the occasion and met the panellists before the start of the discussion. The discussion was moderated by Mr.Diwakar Shukla, Director School of Media and Communication, JLU. This expert panel discussed what journalism is beyond the established rhetoric among scholars and practitioners. For all their seeming self-evidence, what bearing do these platitudes have in terms of the actual social relevance of journalism in the digital age?
