The Legal Aid Clinic of Jagran Lakecity University's School of Law organized a one day Court visit for students of BBA-LLB (Hons.) 3rd Semester, BCOM-LLB 3rd Semester, LLB and LLM 1st Semester on 31st October, 2015 to attend National Lok Adalat at District Court, Bhopal. This visit was under the supervision of Dr. Shobha Bhardwaj, Legal Aid Clinic In-charge and Mr. Abhishek Jain, Assistant Professor.
The students were addressed by Hon'ble Madam Giri Bala Singh, Additional District and Sessions Judge, Bhopal. She briefly introduced students with basic concepts behind the introduction and implementation of Lok Adalat Proceedings along with ADR mechanisms, i.e., Arbitration, Conciliation and Mediation techniques for the speedy disposal of cases. She explained that Lok Adalat is a mechanism by which justice is dispensed speedily without entangling into the technicalities. This reduces the heavy burden on the Courts and provides relief to litigants eagerly waiting to get justice. She also differentiated between the procedure adopted for settlement of disputes in Lok Adalat, Mediation and Arbitration. Dr. Shobha Bhardwaj, Faculty in charge of Legal Aid Clinic briefed the gathering about the activities which have been conducted in the session 2014-2015 and the activities which are planned for the 2015-16 session.
The students were divided into six groups to attend Lok Adalat Proceedings in various matters related to public utilities, electricity, MGNREGA and other petty offences. The students were explained various technical, procedural, legal and social aspects behind the application of legal provisions and remedies by the respective Hon'ble Judges. They also shared their personal views regarding the current scenario related to the effect of legal studies on the upcoming generations.
