Jagran Lakecity University organised a two day international conference on "Mainstreaming Life Skills Education for Nation Building" on 26th & 27th February wherein eminent speakers from India, UK, USA, Hong Kong, South Africa, Singapore and Japan presented papers and shared their views on the importance of life skills education. The Conference was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Shri Lal Singh Arya, Hon'ble Minister , Government of M.P. along with Shri Hari Mohan Gupta, Hon'ble Chancellor, Jagran Lakecity University.

The Plenary Session was focused on 'Margin to Mainstream: Life Skills Perspective for Social Inclusion' which was chaired by Dr. Swaroop Rawal, Member, Higher Education Council, Government of India. The speakers discussed, debated and concluded that the margins to mainstream approach should be focused more on the skills and individual behavior needed for people to cope with the demands of modern society, to avoid persistent marginalization from community life and from sources of fulfillment such as work, education and family life. Major General Dilawar Singh, Director General - NYKS, Government of India said "Skill development in India goes beyond the transactional view of balancing the emerging labour demand-supply gap. It is about social upliftment - giving a fair chance to those millions of individuals to get an equal status as the socially privileged."

The technical sessions and symposiums in the conference covered issues ranging from 'Poverty And Vulnerability Reduction Strategies And Life Skills, Life Skills Intervention Strategies Among SC/ST/Minority/Women/Transgender/Differently-abled, Life Skills For Global Competitiveness to Life Skills And Lifelong Learning, Education, Livelihood, Employment: Role of Life Skills, Life Skills for Healthy living and Life Skills and Skill development.

Mr. Keith Falconer, a Venture Capitalist from Hong Kong, while delivering the key note address said that, "India's opportunity is now a global opportunity, its capacity to become a world leader in so many sectors is unchallengeable. Global corporations view India as a vital market for the future. Nation Building is an appropriate method of providing a stable, peaceful and secure community, which can meet the needs of the people within it. Life Skills Education gives students the skills to develop positive and flexible approaches, to effectively deal with life's challenges and demands." The Hon'ble Vice - Chancellor, Jagran Lakecity University emphasized on the importance of life skills education by citing examples of Mahatma Gandhi and Swami Vivekanand.

The conference concluded on a high note when Shri V.D. Sharma, Vice- Chairman, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India during the valedictory session thanked all the delegates for participating in the conference and encouraged them to come up with ideas which can be put into practice to increase the awareness of life skills education among the youth of the country.
