The School of Humanities and Arts organized a Career Mentoring Workshop for its students on 19th January 2017. The guest speakers invited for the workshop were: Ms. Kaneez Zehra Razavi, Senior Editor, Amaryllis (An imprint of Manjul Publications), Bhopal and Dr. Anupama Maheshwari, Career Consultant, Aadhar, Bhopal. Obtaining the right guidance at the right moment is essential in proper career planning and achieving success in life. The objective of the workshop was to provide the students with an opportunity to interact with the subject experts and gain knowledge of the various avenues of higher education as well as job opportunities in the field of English Literature and Psychology.

Ms. Kaneez Zehra Razavi enlightened the students on choosing a career after doing a degree in English Literature with special emphasis on publishing, editing, copywriting, content development and graphic designing. She also threw light on how one needs to develop their skill set and continuously adapt one's style, even at times according to the author one is working for. She enriched her talk by including various exercises and activities that focused on the intricate details of language and showed the students various books as way of familiarizing them with the different aspects of writing and producing a work. The students learned about the efforts undertaken by content writers, proof readers, copy editors, editors, graphic designers etc. put together to bring out an author's book. Following her talk, she had a question and answer session with the students where she responded to their specific queries.

Dr. Anupama Maheshwari highlighted on the skill set required by students of Psychology and the various options available to them to assess and enhance their skills. She also reiterated the need to gain experience and practical knowledge through internships which would be an addition to the theoretical knowledge that they gained from studies. Further, she spoke about the various specializations that the students could aspire and train for. She also emphasized that while looking towards colleges and universities for further degrees and specializations, the cost incurred by the student and the return gained by the student should be evaluated carefully. The students raised queries regarding higher education in Psychology in India and abroad which were dealt by Dr. Maheshwari. She detailed the numerous career options available for graduates and post-graduates of Psychology.
